What Is A HotRod
Hotrod: v. n. [hot-rod],
“Hotrod” is the term generally used to describe a vehicle far too “souped up” for the intent of conventional daily driving. They are oftentimes characterized by their loud, rowdy exhaust note, and can even seem to hold distinct personalities of their own. A hotrod can be much more than even this, though;
allow me to get philosophical for a moment…
It’s pure and simple; a car is no hotrod without a slight taste of rebellion. They are built with no desire to conform to societal standards or expectations, and this is what gives them their own unique style, razor’s edge individuality, and soul. They are the true essence of freedom, because they remind us everyday that we could die at any moment.
You see, a hotrod is not necessarily always our most reliable vehicle, nor is it the best looking. To be honest, sometimes they’re just downright offensive. However, they are something that we can call our own, something that we built with our own muscle and determination, something that we can take pride in, even if they do tend to be screaming metal deathtraps that oftentimes handle like a refrigerator full of bowling balls.
Most of the time we work on them as much, if not more, than we drive them. Not always because there is something wrong, but because we are constantly wrenching on them for the therapy and satisfaction of it; a break from our lives. We build them because they make us smile, laugh, and act in juvenile ways that may, or may not this time, get us in trouble. They are a personification and extension of ourselves that tells a story about us. We don’t care what they are worth, because hotrods lend us excitement, and for the length of a drive, allow us to walk the line between reality and a feeling of something greater while gripping the wheel.
Over the years hotrods have changed, and they will continue to change, from a blown 55 Chevy gasser to a turbo Subaru. That's what's special about the hotrod hobby, our creations still catch the eye and spark the imagination with thrill and desire;
and that, my friends, is timeless.
